ARTIST BIOGRAPHY

Symoné (1993) is Half-American/Half-British interdisciplinary artist, live art director, and digital creator working at the intersection of circus/dance and game technologies. She holds a BA in Anthropology from SOAS University of London and received a full schloarship with Code Coven studying Game Development.

Her practice exists between immersive installations, narrative & philosophical led video games, and performance-driven digital works that explore queerness, identity, the unconscious, and the body in relation to digital and public space. As a movement-informed director, her approach is shaped by a background in circus, cabarett, and theatre, lending a choreographic and embodied sensibility to both live and virtual environments.

Symoné has created and shown and/or commissioned with institutions including  Arts Council England, Immersive Arts, The Place, Cambridge Junction (Stobbs New Ideas Fund), The Trigger Stuff,  Attenborough Arts Centre (Leicester and Brighton), Marlborough Productions, Derby Theatre, and Birmingham Hippodrome. She has held residencies and development opportunities at The Roundhouse, Here & Now, and Fierce Festival.

In 2024 she created a 6 month long workshop programme, Melanin Power Up, a creative platform for queer, trans, and intersex people of colour to explore entry level experimental game-making, funded by NYX Professional Make-Up and UK Black Pride.

In 2025, she established the Live Art & Gaming Network at LADA and currently serves on the board of trustees for The Posh Club by Duckie. She is currently a year long artist-in-residence at LADA.

She also is Guinness World Record holding circus artist [link // link]

ARTIST STATEMENT

I’m Symoné, an interdisciplinary artist currently living between London/Kent. My practice explores the body as both medium and message, weaving together performance, game mechanics, and installation to create narrative or emottionally-driven experiences.

My work is process-based, balancing intuitive, personal experience with research-led enquiry. Across mediums, I’m interested in how stories are shaped through embodiment, memory, and interaction, often using glitch, atmosphere, and anti-linear structures to reframe how we engage with narrative.

I focus on the following thematic areas:

  • Hierarchy and power dynamics

  • The unconscious

  • The body in relation to (digital and non-digital) space

  • Queer Identity and sexuality

  • The queer gaze

These themes unfold across both live and digital work, often through speculative, immersive environments. My directing and design practice is deeply informed by my background as a circus and movement-based artist, which influences how I choreograph space, rhythm, and the role of the body in performative storytelling.

I create “anti-games, ”digital experiences that defy traditional game mechanics in favour of atmosphere, affect, and queer worldbuilding. In performance contexts, I blend physical spectacle with conceptual play to explore consciousness, roleplay, and transformation.

Community-building is also central to my practice. In 2024, I crreated a 6 month long project, Melanin Power Up, platform and workshop series for queer, trans, and intersex people of colour to explore accessible game design, supported by UK Black Pride and NYX Professional Makeup.

My current projects include a series of mixed-reality works exploring identity, memory, and interactions including;  Highway to Infinity (a platformer video game), and Nullspace Motel (performance art and audience interactive gaming), and The B0dy_is_0bs0l3t3, funded by Immersive Arts.
